Homemade Burgers

This is a great recipe for a really juicy, tasty burger. I used fillet mince as I was feeling fancy. They're sliders as i have a new gadget and small burgers can dry out really easily, especially on the BBQ, but these were really moist. Terrible 'after' pictures as I forgot.

Ingredients

  • 1 large egg

  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • ½ tsp onion powder

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • 500g minced beef or beef and pork

  • ¼ cup fine breadcrumbs

Method

  1. Whisk together the egg, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper.

  2. Add the ground mince and breadcrumbs and use your hands to mix until combined.

  3. Gently shape the mixture into burgers.

  4. I used a burger press but if you don’t have one, use your thumb to press down in the centre of each burger to create an indent.  Fact time: you should do this because when any muscle cooks, it contracts, which can mean that your meat will shrink. Making an indent in the centre helps the burger to hold its shape as the meat contracts.

  5. Refrigerate the burgers for 20-30 mins to help keep their shape.

  6. Cook the burgers for 4-5 mins per side until they reach the desired doneness.

  7. Allow the burgers to rest for a few minutes, then serve.
