Tik Tok trend alert! The most cheese I've ever used in any recipe so you know it's Amercian. Honestly phenominal though, like an extra cheesy spaghetti bolognese lasagne. Easy to put together too once you've been to Aldi to spend a million dollars on cheese.
I did make a few changes due to living in the UK.
Ingredients
Spaghetti Layer
350g spaghetti, cooked al dente - I used curly spaghetti because I am currently trying every shape
1 cup marinara sauce - I used a big tin I got from an Amercian grocery site (picture below) to be more authentic to the cause, but any tomato sauce jar would do.
1/4 cup butter, cut into thin slices - really not sure this is needed but in for a penny, gain 3 pounds.
Meat Layer
1 tbsp olive oil
500g mince beef and 225g ground sausage, mild Italian OR 750g of beef and pork mince (which I used)
1/4 cup onion, chopped
1 tsp garlic, minced
4 cups marinara sauce
1 tsp dried Italian seasoning
Salt and pepper to taste
1 1/2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded for the top
Creamy Cheese Layer
225g cream cheese, softened
1/3 cup sour cream
1 cup ricotta cheese
1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated
Method
Spaghetti Layer
Cook the spaghetti to al dente, drain and toss in 1 cup of marinara sauce to coat.
Meat Layer
Heat the olive oil in a large pan and add the mince and sausage and cook until the meat is no longer pink.
Drain any excess oil.
Add the onion and garlic and cook for 3 min until the onion is softened.
Stir in Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
Turn off the heat and stir in 4 cups of marinara sauce.
Creamy Cheese Layer
In a large bowl mix the cream cheese, sour cream, and ricotta until combined.
Stir in the parmesan and 1 cup of mozzarella.
To Assemble
Preheat the oven to 180C and spray a casserole dish with olive oil.
Add the pasta mixture to the bottom.
Evenly distribute the butter on top of the pasta.
Spread the cream cheese mixture on top of the pasta.
Add the meat mixture on top of the cheese.
Sprinkle evenly with 1 1/2 cups of shredded mozzarella.
Cover with foil, bake for 30 mins, then uncover and bake for an additional 10 mins.
