Raising Cane’s Fried Chicken, Texas Toast and Sauce

Tik Tok got me again. Raising Cane's is an Amercian fast food restaurant and I saw lots of people eating or making this dish. I made it with the accompaniments it comes with in store (crinkle chips and thick bread) but it really could do with some salad!

The sauce is what everyone raves about, so much so that they serve it in a cup and charge $6 for it. To be honest it was nice but not the best. There are varying recipes so maybe mine wasn't quite right, some use paprika.

The Texas toast was great. As far as I can tell that's really any type of thick bread semi fried. Usually it's made with butter but I saw someone use mayo and got curious. Works really well, I'm guessing as mayo is olive oil based.

The prize though was the chicken! That seasoning it to die for. Crunchy, seasoned, amazing. Alix is chicken obsessed and he loved it. Would make again (a lot) but probably with Ranch.

Ingredients

Marinade

  • 3 chicken breasts, cut longways into strips.

  • 350ml buttermilk

  • 1 tbsp salt

  • 1 tbsp white pepper

  • 1 tbsp garlic powder

Sauce

  • 1 cup mayo

  • ½ cup ketchup

  • 1 tbsp Worcester sauce

  • 2 tsp salt

  • 2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp black pepper

Dredge

  • 1.5 cups plain flour

  • 1 tbsp salt

  • 1 tbsp white pepper

  • 1 tbsp garlic powder

Texas Toast

  • 2 slices thick cut bread

  • Mayo

Method

  1. Mix the marinade ingredients together and pour into a sandwich bag.

  2. Add the chicken, mix and place in the fridge for at least 1 hour.

  3. Mix the sauce ingredients together and refrigerate.

  4. Heat enough oil to cover the chicken.

  5. Remove the chicken from the marinade, dredge with the flour mixture until well coated.

  6. Tap off any excess flour and fry (about 5 minutes each).

  7. Set on a wire rack.

  8. Heat a non stick frying pan (you don’t need oil).

  9. Spread the bread with mayo, place in the frying pan, mayo side down and cook until browned.

  10. Serve with crinkle chips and dip everything in the sauce.
