Spiced Fried Fish with Broccoli Puree

Next time I make this I'll increase the spice with some Kashmiris chilli or curry powder as it was quite mild.

Ingredients

Broccoli Puree

  • 500g frozen broccoli florets

  • 2 tbsp coconut oil (or butter)

  • Sea salt flakes (to taste)

  • Pepper (to taste)

Spiced Fish
  • 3 tbsp plain or rice flour

  • 1 tsp ground ginger

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 1 tsp fine sea salt

  • 2 haddock fillets or other firm white fish, such as hake or cod

  • 1 tbsp sunflower oil

  • ½ lemon (cut into wedges)

Method

  1. Cook the frozen broccoli florets for 10 mins in a pan of salted water.

  2. Drain and add to a blender with 1 tbsp of coconut oil (or butter) and blend, adding salt and pepper to taste.

  3. Leave the lid on while you fry the fish.

  4. Mix the flour, spices and salt and spread on a plate.

  5. Dredge the fish on both sides until well coated.

  6. Heat the oil and put both fillets in the pan, skin-side down, and cook for 2-3 minutes.

  7. Turn them over and cook for another 1½ minutes, or until the fish is just cooked through.
